How to choose a non-catalytic stove

Decide the cord-versus-pellet question first, because this list mixes both. A pellet stove buys its efficiency with machinery: augers, blowers, and electronics that need electricity to run at all and their own cleaning schedule. A cord-wood secondary-burn stove is the opposite proposition — no moving parts, no power required, fuel you can process yourself — which is exactly the simplicity that makes non-cats the default first stove.

Then be honest about burn patterns.
